Rulers and guides
Measure the stage and line up your drawing with guide lines dragged out of the ruler.
3 min
Press Ctrl+R, or choose View → Rulers. A ruler appears on top and another on the left, in document pixels, with zero at the corner of the stage. A lighter band shows where the stage starts and ends, and a mark follows your cursor.
Click a ruler and drag into the stage: a guide is born under the cursor, with a label showing its exact position. The top ruler makes horizontal guides; the left ruler makes vertical ones. Release to place it.
To place a guide by number, choose View → Guides → New guide… and type the orientation and position in pixels. While dragging, hold Shift to follow the ruler ticks; with Snap to grid on, the guide also follows the grid.
Guides attract your drawing: points, edges and centers snap to them when they pass close. Hold Alt to ignore snapping during a gesture, or turn off View → Snap to objects.
To move a guide, use the Selection tool (V) or the Transform tool (Q) and drag it. To remove it, drag it back onto the ruler. Esc cancels the drag and Ctrl+Z undoes it.
View → Guides hides the guides (Ctrl+;), locks the existing ones against accidental moves, or clears them all. Guides are saved in the .zyggs project but never appear in an export.
