Investing in Zyggs

Zyggs is a 2D drawing and animation program that runs on the person's own computer, with a local assistant and local motion capture. This page gathers what exists today and how to reach the team.

In short

  • Version 3.15.0 for Windows (x64 and ARM64), macOS on Apple silicon and Linux; on the Mac, signed and notarized by Apple.
  • Revenue from subscriptions (Basic and Advanced plans, monthly or yearly) and cloud space packs, with prices shown in the buyer's currency.
  • The assistant and the motion engine run on the person's computer: one more request costs nothing on the server.
  • Before the public launch: we have not published usage or revenue figures yet.

What Zyggs is

A 2D drawing and animation program for people who make things: 1,528 brushes, vectors, pixel art, a timeline with onion skin, perspective grids, rulers and guides, textured papers and mesh warp. It also has a 3D scene where the person draws on sheets in space, 3D shapes with light and shadow, camera moves, and export to GLB, OBJ and USDZ for augmented reality. The pen responds to pressure, tilt and the eraser end. The site brings together the account, subscriptions, cloud space, the forum, artists' portfolios, the blog and support, in eleven languages.

Who it is for

  • Illustrators and comic artists who want brushes, vectors and papers in one file.
  • Independent animators and students who animate frame by frame, from the sketch to the video.
  • Pixel artists who need the grid, the palette and GIF export.
  • Content creators who export GIF and MP4 for social networks.
  • Small studios that need light 3D pieces for augmented reality.

What changes for the people who use it

  • Assistant in plain language: the person writes what they want and the program proposes the commands, without sending the request to the cloud.
  • Motion capture from video, also local: a video of a person becomes movement for a character.
  • The engines run on the processor, without requiring a dedicated graphics card.
  • Projects are local files; the cloud is optional and comes with the plan (2 GB on Basic, 10 GB on Advanced).
  • The program says when a new version is out, and the person downloads it from the site.

How Zyggs earns money

A monthly or yearly subscription to one of two plans, Basic and Advanced, with a discount on the yearly one. Newcomers get 7 days of Advanced without a card. Cloud space packs (+10 GB and +50 GB) go on the same invoice. Each subscription works on one computer. A certified payment processor charges in the buyer's currency, and the site shows the prices in it. The program is downloaded straight from the site, with no app store in between.

Costs that do not grow with each request

The assistant and motion capture run on the user's computer, so the server cost does not rise with each request. The costs that follow the number of people are cloud space (Cloudflare R2, charged per gigabyte stored, with no fee for data going out), the payment processor's fee on each payment and the account e-mails. The site runs on Cloudflare Workers.

Where we are

Zyggs is in review, before the public launch. The 3.15.0 packages for Windows, macOS and Linux are ready, and the Mac one is signed and notarized by Apple. The program has automated tests on Windows, macOS and Linux, more than a hundred suites on each. We have not yet published figures on people using it or on revenue. When we do, they will come with the date and the method of the measurement.

Climate

We publish the method we use to estimate how much carbon Zyggs can avoid, with the formulas, the source and the uncertainty of each number, and a calculator to try other values.

Talking to the team

Write through the support form, in the Investment category, saying who you are and what you want to know. The team answers in the panel and sets up a conversation when it makes sense.
