Enable references in the timeline. Previous drawings are red and later drawings are green by default.
Open the settings beside the button. Before and After each accept 0 to 30 frames; zero hides that direction. Adjust Opacity and Outlines.
References fade with distance from the current frame. They are hidden during playback and export and cannot be selected as artwork.
