Open Animation → 3D sketch…. The 3D scene takes the main canvas, with a front plane the size of the stage: what you draw there comes out the same as in 2D. Colour and thickness are those of the canvas stroke.

02

Draw with the left button. The right button (or Alt + drag) turns the view, the middle button (or Shift + right button) moves it, and the wheel moves closer or further away. Front, Top, Side and Default return to familiar views.

03

To draw off the front plane, add more planes with the + button: Front (a little further back), Ground, Side, or At the current view, a plane that faces the camera. The list at the top picks the active plane; the bin removes the plane and its strokes; the button beside it turns the view to face the plane.

04

A stroke always lands on the active plane, at the point the cursor shows, from any view. A faint grid on each plane helps you read its tilt and depth; the light rectangle is the camera frame, what comes out when you make 2D.

05

Make 2D turns the current view into vector drawing on a new layer, perspective included. Turntable makes the camera go once around and creates a layer with the number of frames chosen beside it.

06

Ctrl+Z undoes each stroke and each plane. The sketch is saved in the .zyggs project, but only reaches the frames and the export after Make 2D or Turntable.
